Safety Policy
An app that encourages meeting strangers carries an obligation. This is what we do about it, and what we ask of you.
Design decisions that protect you
Safety in PickOk is structural rather than promised. Several risks common to dating apps simply do not exist here because the features that create them were never built.
- There is no messaging, so nobody can send you anything unwanted.
- Your location is never displayed. The map shows counts per venue, never a person.
- The map publishes a count for a venue, never a name, a face or a pin on a person, and a count cannot be opened to reveal who is there.
- Detections expire after 24 hours and leave no history of who was near whom.
- The area around your home is excluded from the map entirely.
- A man’s photo is shown only after a woman approves the nudge, and doing nothing is always a valid answer.
Before you go and say hello
Meet in the public place where you both already are. Tell a friend where you are going and when you expect to be home. Keep your own transport. Stay with drinks you have watched being poured. If anything feels wrong, leave — you owe no explanation to anyone.
If something happens
Report from inside the app, or write to [email protected] with the date, the venue and what occurred. We acknowledge safety reports within 24 hours, faster where there is an immediate risk.
If you are in danger, contact your local emergency number first. We are a small team and cannot intervene physically, and we will always tell you to call the police rather than wait for us.
What we will do
We investigate every report with the limited data we hold, and we act on the balance of what we can see rather than demanding proof you cannot have. Outcomes range from removing a photo to a permanent ban of the account and device. We will tell you the outcome, without disclosing another person’s private information.
Where a report involves credible threats, sexual assault, coercion or a minor, we preserve the relevant records and cooperate with law enforcement in line with our Law Enforcement Requests page.
Blocking and hiding
You can hide yourself instantly by switching detection off — nothing about you is broadcast while it is off. If you recognise someone you never want to be detected by again, report them and we will exclude that pairing permanently, in both directions, without telling them.
